Welcome to Science
We are really looking forward to our new Year 7 joining us and we always try to ensure that students are actively involved in lessons as much as possible. This means we do a lot of practical work in the labs, and of course your child's safety is our number one priority.
If students have long hair, we ask them to carry a hair bobble so they can tie it back during experiments. They absolutely must wear safety glasses when doing experiments - these are provided by us, but please make sure students who wear prescription glasses know that they must wear safety glasses as well as (or instead of) these, as regular glasses are not chemical proof and they don't protect all of the eye.
It would also be really useful (though not essential) if students can bring a calculator and 30cm ruler to science lessons with them. If they don't have this equipment, not to worry, as we have some we can loan out in lessons.
Y7 science learning journey
Throughout Year 7, students study a balanced curriculum comprising equal content for Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Lessons contain a mix of theory and practical work, mathematical and scientific skills, individual and group work, projects and three formal assessments.
Students have three science lessons per week, all of which are taught in fully equipped laboratories.
Homework is set weekly, online via educake.
