Geography

What is Geography?

Geography is the study of Earth’s landscapes, peoples, places and environments. It is about the world in which we live.

Geography is a highly interesting subject to study and its content is becoming ever more relevant and important in our world. Studying Geography at Outwood Academy Freeston will make you question how and why the world is changing, globally and locally but also, how human actions (and in particular your actions) can complicate and increase natural changes and events.

What will you study in Geography at OAFreeston?

During your first year of Geography (year 7) you will study the following units:

  • Why is our world amazing?

  • Why are ecosystems so different?

  • Is there a development gap?

  • How does ice and water shape our landscapes?

  • How diverse is Africa?

  • How am I linked to climate change?

All of these units incorporate core concepts which will run through all your Geography lessons from year 7- 11. These core concepts are; sustainability, development, physical processes, climate change and human and physical interactions.
