English

Year 6 English Transition

We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to our English lessons at Outwood Academy Freeston. You will study a range of topics and we are certain that there will be something that you will enjoy. English gives you the opportunity to read a range of texts, write a variety of texts and also show your creative side when producing stories or descriptions. You will have four hours of English lessons on your timetable - this may be split between two English teachers.

Your English Lessons

As part of your English lessons, you will spend the first 15 minutes reading a book of your choice from our library.

You will use an online program called ‘Accelerated Reader’ where you will complete a reading test which will give you a reading age and a code linked to the amazing range of books in our library. Every time you read a book, you will complete a quiz on it. There are many exciting competitions running in our library linked to reading - keep an eye out for the latest ones when you join us and watch out for our updates on Twitter.
